Textbook & Course Packet Returns

We want you to be satisfied with your textbook purchases. To help us serve you better, please review the following return guidelines:

  • Your U Card and other picture ID are required for all textbook returns.
  • Bring your new, used or rental textbook and original cash register receipt to the U of M Bookstore
  • Books purchased after the return deadline are non refundable
  • If you are returning a new textbook for a full refund it must be in perfect condition with no writing, highlighting or other marks
  • We will credit your return to the same account you used for your purchase
  • eTextbooks are returnable only if they are unaccessed
  • Excessive returns of textbooks will not be allowed without proof of class cancellation

Fall and Spring Semester return dates

Textbooks are returnable the first two weeks of each semester. Due to the sensitive nature of copyright, course packets are returnable only during the first week of the term with proof of class cancellation and the original cash register receipt.

B-Term and 8 Week Summer Session return dates

Textbooks for these classes are returnable for one week from the start of class. Course packets are returnable for the first three days.

May Term and Summer Courses that meet less than 8 weeks, but more than 2 weeks return dates

Textbooks for these courses are returnable the first three days of class. Course packets are returnable the first day only.

Courses meeting 2 weeks or less return dates

Textbooks and course packets for these courses are non-returnable.

Online and Distance Learning Textbook Returns
Extended Term
Full refunds for ODL texts will be given only if you cancel your registration and the books are in their original condition. If you cancel your registration on an extended term (nine-month) course, you may return your books for a full refund within two months of the start date of the extended term. You must provide a sales receipts and a copy of your fee statement verifying your cancellation.

Texts are considered used and not eligible for a full refund if you write in them or cancel after two months.

Term Based
Full refunds for ODL texts will be given only if you cancel your registration and the books are in their original condition. If you cancel your registration on a term-based course you may return your text for a full refund within one week of the start date of the summer term and within two weeks of the start date of the fall or spring semester.

Texts are considered used and not eligible for a full refund if you write in them or cancel after the published return period.

General and Reference Book Returns
General and reference books may be returned to the U of M Bookstores location where the books were purchased. To receive a refund please bring along your original cash register receipt. Books must be in re-saleable condition with any software seals unbroken.

Medical & Health Science Reference Book Returns
Medical reference titles, except for Board Review titles, may be returned to the U of M Bookstore at Coffman Memorial Union for a refund within one week from the date of purchase. Board Review titles are non-returnable. To receive a refund please bring along your original cash register receipt. Books must be in re-saleable condition with any software seals unbroken.

Stethoscope & Medical Equipment Returns
Returns are only accepted on defective product within 30 days of purchase and with the original cash register receipt.

Clothing and Gift Returns
Our guarantee of quality: If, for any reason, you are not pleased with your selection, you may return the merchandise for an exchange or full refund. To receive a refund, please bring along your original cash register receipt.

Online Clothing and Gift Returns
If you need to exchange or return an item you ordered online from our Web site, please repackage your order and ship it to:

Please make sure your return package includes all original packaging, paperwork and receipts. We recommend shipping all merchandise returns to us via UPS. We will credit the same credit card account we charged on your order. Standard shipping charges will be applied to orders that are reshipped.
 
General Merchandise Returns
The U of M Bookstores wants you to be satisfied with all of your purchases. If, for any reason, you are not pleased with your purchase you may return it for an exchange or refund. To receive a refund, please bring along your original cash register receipt.
 

Computer & iPod, iPad and Camera Returns
Open products are not returnable. Unopened products may be returned within 14 calendar days from the date of purchase with original receipt. Configured to order, customized products may not be returned under any circumstances.

If your product is defective or inoperable upon first use, please contact M Tech at 612-626-9124. Such a defect, if any, is covered under the terms of your product’s warranty. Please refer to the warranty information and other support documentation that came with your product.

Software Returns
Opened software is not returnable. Unopened software may be returned within 30 day from the date of purchase. You must present your product and original cash register receipt.

Other Electronics & Networking Device Returns
You may return your merchandise within thirty (30) business days from the date of purchase. You must have the original sales receipt and the merchandise in its original, unopened packaging. Opened merchandise is subject to at 10% re-stocking fee, and must include the original packaging in saleable condition.

Defective merchandise may be returned within five (5) business days from the date of purchase. You must have the original sales receipt and packaging. Merchandise must appear as new, with no visible signs of abuse. Only defective merchandise itself will be exchanged with the same model number when ever possible. No cash refunds will be made on defective merchandise returns.
